Goodbye 2017. Hello 2018

by - 6:09 AM

Hello 2018.

It's day 1 of a new year and once again, like every year, it feels like someone has turned the page to a blank canvas.

2017 was complicated and a lonely year, despite making some of the best friends and experiencing some of the best moments overall I think I spent more time in bed with tears streaming down then any other time combined. It was an important year and I learnt a lot.

2017: The list knick knacks

  • I got a part time job but it was a whole lot more. I spent so much time working that it dictated practically my whole life. The most significant lesson that I learnt are that people constantly come and go. Time moves quickly and slowly. Cherish the ones that you love and make you feel happy but don't spend time with those that make you feel less because they will leave your life.  Another thing is that there are so many different types of people in this world, there are those that feel shy ordering and those that feel no remorse. There are customers and waiters and people who have good days and bad days so think twice before judging. Try to be the best version of yourself.
  • I struggled a whole lot. With depression. With my emotions. With University. With a sick family member. Some days it felt like nothing would get better and everything felt so meaningless but I am still proud that I pulled through. I became closer to my family then I ever have before.
  • I gifted my family (grandma and aunty) with the money that I earned myself and it was probably one of the most rewarding experiences hearing my grandma's happiness.
  •  I stayed true to myself by saying no to relationships I'm uncomfortable with. I went through breaking many hearts this year however I am happy that I did. (I also spent 6 months in love with a guy who thinks I'm a meme.)
  • I made friends with a lot of strangers and had some of the best times.一期一会
  • I went to see the love of my life. Taka Moriuchi. One Ok Rock truly was life changing.
2018 is a new year. It's going pass so quickly. It's the last year of my life as a teenager.
  • I want to love myself. Physically and mentally. It's something that I neglected too much last year but I want to. I want to dress the way I want. I want to leave the house feeling pretty. I want to be able to go out without makeup. I want to get verification from myself and not from some boy who likes me. I want to stop hiding all my flaws and accept them as who I am. I don't want to change who I am for others anymore.
  • I want to fall in love with someone and I want someone to fall in love with me. Not with their looks. Or their popularity. But with their soul and I want to feel accepted. (vise versa)
  • I want to give university my best. It's only a few years of my life yet I feel so reluctant to truly get involved. I want to spend time studying and actually completing tasks.
  • Learn to appreciate the friends that make me feel happy and spend more time with them.
Small steps
  • I want to go on exchange to Japan.
  • If I go japan I really want a fringe
  • I want my fm to get better.
  • I want to learn to drive.
  • Learn Kanji
  • Date someone

  1. Its so great that, whilst you struggled in 2017, you can view it with the value of what you learned, I guess thats one of the most important things in life, what you learned and how you've changed. You achieved some pretty cool things too and that's definitely worth recognising–your goals for 2018 sound awesome and I've got a good feeling about the next year. Peace nd love x

  2. I found 2017 as one of my loneliest years too. I moved to a new sixth form and just didn't feel comfortable, thankfully I only have a few months left. I totally resonate with your first goal, I want to start making more of an effort with my appearance because I think it's a basic form of self-love. There are so many times where I can spend a week or more without washing my hair or even moisturising my face and it is so detrimental and unhealthy. When I do put on makeup it makes me feel considerably better and more confident. I hope everything goes to plan for you and your trip to Japan materialises- best wishes <3
